Latest thoughts on the new digital art

Latest thoughts on the new digital art

This new art medium is out of this world! I have always stuck to oil painting or watercolor but after my first cautious attempts, I love it. The freedom it gives is amazing you can experiment to your heart’s content. This is my latest creation of a bird in paradise with a rough blue sea.

Main tools used: - blend, bucket fill and warp

Careful with the warp tool you can get carried away.

How to find the GIMP warp tool

August 9th, 2012

First of all, you need to know where to find the tool, look along the top of GIMP to the filter menu then go down to distorts and on the right the 6th link down is the warp tool. You cannot, however, warp without something there to start with. Therefore, build up layers of the colours and patterns you wish to use. The warp tools will appear in another window and I suggest you just have fun and experiment with the setting tab and deform mode tools.

Finally let your imagination take over. You can, however, over warp a picture so you need to control yourself.

Enjoy!

Creating My First Computer Work of Art

Creating My First Computer Work of Art

After obtaining a computer tablet, I decided to try to develop a new work of art. Not having worked on computer art before it was a steep learning experience. The picture shown was developed from an initial drawing completed in 1976 and added to the computer. I tried the blend and bucket tools and gradually the picture was taking shape. Here you can see one of the intermediate steps before the work was considered finished.

You can see the finished work of art “Little Welsh House” below, I would love your comments.

Changing Your Mind on Your Art is OK

August 3rd, 2012

At first, I created this piece and decided it was NOT worth adding to Fine Art America, but as time past, I had another look and totally change my opinion. The colours gave a fresh feeling and a feeling that spring was on its way. It just shows how working on art and looking continually at one design can drain you. I think that art is a very personal journey. Therefore, when you create your art don't be afraid to put it aside and wait until later maybe you will see it quite differently in the future!

How I Create Abstract Digital Art

August 3rd, 2012

How I Create Abstract Digital Art

A preliminary picture is shown here before the final work was completed, so that you can see an abstract work in progress.

This work began with no intention of completing an abstract it was started as a design for a Zazzle card background; however it started to take on a life of its own. After playing with the GIMP warp tool the picture didn't look marvellous at first but was just fun, eventually after adding and subtracting colour it started to take shape. Then after hours of experimentation the complex design was declared finished, at least by me.

At one time, the feeling it gave, was that it was becoming complicated perhaps messy as things were happening all across the work hence its final name is “busy”. Eventually, simplicity and colour was given to the spheres to prevent too much going on in every corner of the work. This has led to the idea of another abstract but this time trying to calm the work down but keep the overall design.

Here is the final abstract. I hope you like the new creation and that you are inspired to create your own abstract work of art.
